Alex: a very good explanation of what you do and why you do it. I was especially impressed by your views on orgo-industrial farming. Mary referred me, because of your polycloches. Thank you for the generous detail you provided. In the 'Welcome' photo, at the [western?] end of your garden, there are a number of poles, about 3 metres high. What are they for?
A lovely story: makes M. Evans look like what he is. Many thanks. John
Hi John, thanks for visiting the blog.
The stakes in the picture are steel posts with a baton screwed on top. They were intended as supports for climbing tomatoes. As it turned out, I didn't use them (couldn't find the time to truss up the vines), but thankfully I still had a good crop. Next year I am thinking of trailing the tomatoes over bed bases or low racks, so there will be good airflow under the vines without spending hours trimming and tying.
Let us know how you go with the cloches!
